Over the years, various aspects of technology, such as computing power and the accumulation of healthcare data, have advanced significantly, which has provided a foundation for the adoption of AI in healthcare (Ahuja, 2019). The application has resulted in insights that, when implemented, result in more accurate diagnoses, which improved patient care and better administration of preventative care. Various core healthcare departments apply AI to increase efficiency and they include diagnostic radiology, pathology, and cardiology, among others. In Diagnostic radiology, radiologists leverage AI to perform tasks such as historical image comparison and automated image segmentation, among others. This boosts efficiency, which translates to better care delivery and improved patient outcomes (Ahuja, 2019). Secondly, pathologists leverage AI capability to process large data sets that offer insights that enable them to remain updated on emerging biomarkers, ultimately improving diagnostic accuracy (Ahuja, 2019). Lastly, the cardiology departments also leverage AI to analyze patient data and forecast potential outcomes that are key to administering preventative care and ensuring closer and more accurate monitoring of cardiology patients (Ahuja, 2019). Overall, AI holds a lot of potential for the medical field by supporting healthcare practitioners, which ultimately leads to better patient care without replacing the critical and necessary human touch in healthcare.

Despite the technology's ability to support the productivity of the workers, there are significant concerns regarding its impact on job displacement and transformation of various occupations (Frank et al, 2019). In this case, AI can augment certain workers while replacing the tasks performed by others. Additionally, the transformation is expected to cut across all occupations at varying degrees. The impact of AI is also complicated because, unlike previous technological advancements, its application cuts across many industries, including most education and well-paid sectors, such as finance and medicine, among others (Frank et al, 2019). As such, while AI disruption in some sectors is currently underway, its diversity poses a challenge in predicting how it will impact the different types of labor. Overall, AI may result in significant job losses in some sectors; however, it is also bound to create efficiency and new employment opportunities in others.

As such, AI presents significant challenges and opportunities that can be harnessed to advance society.
