Majoring in nursing is no simple job decision. It is a choice of life to me, which involves service, learning, and compassion. Nurses come into contact with individuals during some of their weakest moments, wherein they might experience fear, confusion, fatigue, and even doubt. The assistance of both a professional and a person who will listen, understand, respect, and treat them with dignity becomes necessary at such times. I wish to be a nurse because through my skills, I can be of service to people in more ways than one on a professional level as well as a humanitarian one. I wish to be a nurse because I would like to serve people, believe in care, have love for the medical world and act as a patient's advocate.

The Willingness to Help Others

My wish to assist people is one of the reasons why I would like to be a nurse. Nursing gives me the opportunity to be able to effect a practical change in the lives of people on a day-to-day basis (Toney-Butler & Thayer, 2023). Although a nurse can never get rid of the fear or pain of a patient, they can make the experience less lonesome and bearable. The small gestures that can cause one to feel respected include kind words, explaining an operation, or checking on the progress of a patient. In addition, nursing is an entity based on human interaction. Nurses build trust by the words, actions, and attitude, which they share with the patients and their families. This is important to me as humans recall the manner in which they were treated when they were weak. With this in mind, I aim to be a nurse who will be able to provide calmness and compassion in challenging circumstances.

Patient Centered Care

Another reason why I aspire to become a nurse is that health care should be person-focused and compassionate. People do not represent diagnoses, signs, or room numbers. Instead, they represent individuals with life experiences, families, ideologies, worries, and dreams. A professional nurse acknowledges this aspect, and they always handle patients with dignity. My goal is to provide care that respects the whole person and not the sickness. Person-focused care also requires great listening skills and effective communication (Niu et al., 2025). The majority of patients usually have difficulty understanding medical jargon or ways of treatment. The role of nurses is to assist such patients by translating the medical terms at the beginning stage and involving patients in their own treatment. Effective communication builds trust and improves the quality of care received. This is the kind of nurse I wish to become.

My Interest in Healthcare and Learning

The other aspect that makes me attracted to the nursing field is the fact that it involves lifelong learning. As nurses, people should have knowledge about the body, medications, safety, disease processes, and the needs of the patients. Such knowledge becomes extremely necessary for the safety of medication and patients. To achieve such safety of both patients and medications, nurses need to adapt continuously due to the constant changes in the healthcare environment (Sharma et al., 2024). This will be an appropriate activity because I will have the opportunity to develop myself and improve my professionalism through different situations in the nursing profession. Another aspect that makes me interested in the nursing practice is the requirement to make critical judgments in various situations. Nurses analyze the patient's condition, monitor his/her behavior, cooperate with other professionals such as physicians, and deal with different problems. This aspect attracts me because I understand the role of the nurse's contribution in maintaining the lives of the patients.

Patient Advocacy

One of the important duties of a nurse is to be a patient advocate who acts on behalf of the patient in order to ensure that he or she is treated respectfully, knowledgeably, and equitably during the health care experience. The patient may lack the knowledge of what questions to ask or even be intimidated by the entire medical process. This may result in confusion, fear, or bad decision-making on the part of the patient. It is the role of the nurse to bridge this divide and enable the patient to react to the different treatment options offered, understand the complexity of the information involved, and participate in the decisions relating to his or her health care needs(Çerçi et al., 2025). Another thing to consider is that these interactions need to be carried out in a way that ensures all patients receive the respect that they deserve, by taking into account their opinions and concerns. I wish to be a caring yet alert nurse who does not hesitate to voice what is required by the patient, as well as make them feel that they are important in the process. Thus, I will deliver patient-centered care and be careful to make sure that the rights of the patient are intact.

Conclusion

I want to become a nurse because my values are those of the nursing profession, including the desire to help people, care about them, never stop learning and represent them. Nursing is a special field that combines both science and human interactions and takes care not only of patients' physical but also their psychological state. Nurses should help their patients to feel better during difficult times and ensure their safety. The challenges and stresses of work may be tough and taxing, yet the payoffs may be enormous since there is a path to leave a positive impact on the lives of people in their most vulnerable phase. I will exemplify in my practice a competent, empathetic, and patient attitude and advocate and care for people who have trusted me.
