Draped In Dreams: My Fashion Journey to NYU

As I stand at the precipice of this life-changing opportunity, I am compelled to explore why NYU's Fashion and Design program best fits my career and personal aspirations. The best place to start answering this question is to paint a brief history of how fashion has played an integral part in shaping me. I grew up in a small village in Cameroon, where fashion and colorful displays were the norm. Every social occasion allowed the local mothers to display their intricate African designs connected to their ethnic identity. Growing up, I saw how fashion served as a conduit to showcase feminine beauty, ideals of motherhood and community unity. Inevitably, I became attracted to fashion as my mother taught me how to shop for fabric, design my clothes and infuse my personality and feelings into each piece. Years later, I moved to America and got the opportunity to study fashion and bring my community's designs to the global stage.

Securing a place at NYU will open opportunities for me in the global fashion industry. NYU is located in one of the most iconic fashion hubs in the world. Walking around the City immerses one in major fashion houses, boutiques, showrooms and the annual Fashion Week, which exposes designers and enthusiasts to a global fashion scale. Therefore, attending NYU will give me a golden opportunity to get real-world experience in fashion while obtaining theoretical knowledge from my classes. Besides exposure to fashion, NYU has a diverse and innovative curriculum that integrates fashion, technology, and culture while creating business-savvy professionals. Hence, attending the university will help me obtain an all-rounded education to help position me for the expanding and dynamic fashion industry. Furthermore, I want to tap into NYU's cultural diversity to broaden my global perspective on fashion and people. The university promises to bring together international students drawn from all over the world, translating into a rich tapestry of culture to inspire creativity and innovation.

Attending NYU's fashion program will not be a walk in the park. However, I am committed to facing every challenge this exciting venture throws, understanding that securing a place at the university will be a golden opportunity to chase my dreams. I will bring my strong work ethic and be a valuable addition to the program's multicultural cohort. I hope the admission committee will consider my application for admission and scholarship.
