Dear Members of the Admissions Committee,

I am writing to express my interest in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. I am a Liberian who has attained a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration. I would like to enhance my academic and professional capacity in response to the critical issues regarding governance, policy, and administration in Liberia. In the long term, I intend to apply the knowledge I acquire at the University of Regina to enhance the institutional capacity, good governance, and the provision of services to the people of Liberia.

I have an educational background related to managing public sector organizations, organization theory, and policy analysis. During the course of achieving my undergraduate degree in Public Administration, I learned a lot with regard to administrative ethics, development planning, and governmental resources management in unpredictable situations. I excelled in my classes, and this only made me more confident that public administration is an effective and working instrument of making big changes in the country. Years of war and disorganized governments and systems have left Liberia a long way to go. Due to this fact, the role of trained people in positions of administration cannot be underestimated.

In addition to school work, I have been trying to translate theory into action through community service or volunteering. I have remained engaged in the grassroots activities within my locality to promote youth involvement in decision-making, local government transparency, and advocacy of grassroots development activities. These showed me that sustained progress is both accomplished through well-crafted policy and through effective implementation, responsibility, and public-service-based leadership. These also put me more into the urge of joining a graduate school, where theory is considered equally as practice in the field of public administration.

The Master of Public Administration program offered at the University of Regina specifically draws my attention since I have heard that this institution blends academic excellence in the classroom with field application. I can tell that the curriculum of the program is interdisciplinary, evidence-based in decision-making, and implemented in character, which really resonates with my career purpose. The other fact is that University is public service-oriented, and the international aspect of the study is in sensitive aspect of being in a foreign country and other cultures, like Liberia, this is the ideal place where a foreign student like me can study, be exposed to any ideas, and develop creative solutions which can be applied in their relevant countries and other cultures.

Once my studies are finished, I wish to be able to go back to Liberia and contribute to the modernization and reform of the public sector. Specifically, I would want to serve the government and the non-governmental organizations to develop policies to deal with themes such as inequitable access to social services, bad administration, and corruption. In due course, I hope to contribute to the design of policies that can support democratic rule in Liberia and inclusive development. I am highly confident that the MPA program is going to equip me with the technical skills, leadership abilities, and all the moral character that I need in order to pursue my goals.
