Compensation

Based on a review of MBA graduate compensation data from Harvard Business School's Class of 2005 (Exhibit 6), the median base salary for graduates entering the "Services" industry was $100,000 (Hall, Malhotra & Bennett, 2024). Given my HBS background and the strategic nature of the Director of Business Operations role, a base salary of $120,000 is justified and aligns with market rates for similar positions. According to U.S. News 2024, Business Operations Executives made an average salary of $98,100 in 2022, with the best-paid 25% getting $154,560 and the lowest-paid 25% receiving $62,070. San Jose and Trenton are the metropolitan areas that pay the highest salaries in the business operations manager profession. This salary level is also consistent with the guidance provided by Jim Hummer, who stated the compensation should be "competitive at HBS but within Whole Health's salary ranges."

Bonus

For the bonus component, I propose a performance-based structure with a target of up to $30,000. This aligns with the median additional compensation of $36,000 received by HBS graduates entering the Services industry (Hall, Malhotra & Bennett, 2024). The specific performance goals would be agreed upon with you, focusing on metrics such as client retention, new business development, and operational efficiency improvements. This approach aligns with your guidance to structure the bonus "based upon specific, measurable targets."

Relocation Allowance

I am requesting a one-time relocation allowance of $40,000 to cover the costs of relocating from Boston to Cleveland.
