Angela Wexlers Journey to Self-Discovery

She is engaged to Dr. Denton Dees, and her mother, Grace Wexler, constantly comments on her beauty. However, this seemingly blameless veneer masks an incredibly miserable young woman who seems to think that other people's expectations constrain her. The psychological control exerted by the mother over Angela through her marriage and appearance makes the mother sound obsessive, disrupting the development of autonomy and self-efficacy in the daughter (Rollo et al., 2023), leaving her with no wants or goals whatsoever. This first impression pre-defines Angela as a figure in dire need of change, but who does not possess the strength or ability to change herself.

The competition in Westing Game initiates changes in Angela.
