Admission Essay for Nursing Program at Michigan State University

My journey towards becoming a nurse reflects my life and the dreams that drive me. Caring for people and their well-being is a trait that has always intrigued me, based on personal experience and backed by the belief that knowledge can indeed conquer. With great passion and commitment, I am applying for admission to the nursing program at Michigan State University.

I chose the nursing profession in my childhood and teenage years, owing to my mother’s determination to be a registered nurse. From her, I learned the aspects of patient narratives and the positivity she contributed to people’s lives and their general well-being. She instilled passion in me as I began to embrace the commitment she gave to her work and course. The desire to comfort and support the suffering, as well as provide medical assistance to as many people as possible, became a genuine desire of mine.

One of the major events that firmly convinced me about my choice of the nursing profession took place during my voluntary work at a local hospital. I was posted to the pediatric ward, and most of the children that I got a chance to attend had different health complications. The determination and fight of these young patients ensured that I would not stop and marvel. I was impressed by the nursing care given to the patients. The way they were able to talk to the children, calm them down, and take very good care of them. This experience boosted my desire to become a nurse. It came to my attention that nursing is, in fact, a vocation that expects one to have compassion, time to listen, and dedicate a lifetime to personal development and education.

Michigan State University has a Nursing Program that is known to have a very intensive academic qualifying course of study as well as high-tech facilities and qualified personnel who are trained to be competent and sympathetic nurses. My coursework in psychology has also provided me with insights into human behavior and mental health, an area I believe is crucial for effective patient care. Additionally, my participation in extracurricular activities, such as the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) organization, has refined my leadership skills and deepened my understanding of the healthcare industry.

Beyond academics, my personal qualities and experiences make me a strong candidate for the Nursing Program at Michigan State University. I am a compassionate and empathetic individual driven by a genuine desire to help others. My volunteer work at the hospital, as well as my involvement in community service projects, has taught me the importance of teamwork, communication, and cultural competence in providing effective care. Finally, I intend to further my education in the pediatric nursing area, which I find interesting after working with the children in the pediatric ward. Secondly, I want to be part of the development of the nursing practice through research and academics. My passion is focused on identifying the possibilities of enhancing the patient’s condition using advanced approaches and nursing interventions supported by the findings of existing studies. Thus, my nursing career plan entails returning to school for a master’s degree in nursing and then proceeding to a doctorate in order to attain positions of leadership, whereby I can educate nascent nurses and enable them to impact health care policies and procedures.
