What is Art: A personal Definition

Art is difficult to define since it comprises various human expressions, such as visual art, musical compositions, sculptures, and films. Whether through a painting, sculpture, or musical composition, art is a means through which humans may convey their unique perspectives and ideas to the world. Various art forms have surfaced during human history, and these eras have been classified according to the predominant aesthetic and technical approaches used in their creation.

My unique concept of art is that it is incredibly complicated and different. Art is a medium that conveys sentiments, emotions, abilities, and cultures in an artistic way that roots itself into manifestations of consciousness and enables one to dive into and actualize the secrets of existence. Moreover, the components of any work which could rightfully be termed art include those that are cultural, sociological, religious, thought-provoking, and which engage all 5 of the viewer's senses in a way that stimulates both intellectual thought and emotional response. These components are transferable and communicable by sight, sound, and smell.

Therefore, everything from visual art and literature to music and poetry to cuisine and fragrances is a kind of artistic expression. Although it sounds bizarre to classify food, aroma, and perfumes as artistic work, one cannot dispute how essential these aspects are throughout diverse cultures and how various social groups subjectively understand them. Nevertheless, the aesthetic concept of art is not tied to borders but the assertions of distinctions between civilizations present in our globe. Art is free and unlimited. Therefore, a piece of art may integrate any feelings independent of its original culture and socioeconomic level. In my opinion, a piece of art encompasses anything that causes a strong emotional response in me and also captivates my mind. Such works of art comprised songs with profound hidden messages, music with a cultural influence, some appealing scents such as the ones produced by companies like Dior, and thought-provoking paintings such as those by Thomas Blackshear.

Firstly, songs with complex and oblique meanings are works of art. Torture by Les Friction is among the songs that exemplify my aesthetic philosophy in all its glory. Christian and Satanic themes are interwoven in this song, which laments the pain that good deeds may cause. As far as I can tell, the singer is claiming in the song how he attempted to aid a wounded demon in escaping hell. Unfortunately, the devil took the artist along as it went inside to save both of them. The devil is a metaphor for the artist's sadness and anxiousness in this song. Using a well-deployed rhyming language, the artist alludes to the darkness of the demon's soul and symbolically expresses his melancholy and anxiousness throughout the song. This is art because of symphonic music's powerful effect on listeners' ability to develop their sensations and emotions.

Secondly, an example of a perfume that has an awesome scent is Sauvage by Dior. It beautifully hints at many aspects of nature, which may seem like a strange choice for a piece of art. The perfume opens with a light but lingering citrus note and carries with the raw, though, the noble aroma of fragrant wood. These nuances are then woven together using a touch of Lavender that is both fresh and wild. Perfumes, as well as other scented products, are often not thought of as works of art; however, according to my definition of art, some of them include natural ingredients that give off a subtle, spontaneous suggestion of the outdoors. For someone with a refined sense of smell, these glimpses of nature are sufficient to create a vivid mental picture. According to the Roman philosopher Lucius Annaeus Seneca, art is nothing more than a slavish copy of nature. Since fragrances draw inspiration from and mimic nature, it is reasonable to classify them as works of art.

Thomas Blackshear's creations are an excellent illustration of what constitutes art. His paintings celebrate the African-American heritage while including Evangelical Christian beliefs (Klann). Blackshear is the best artist I have ever seen since he creates fantastic portraits with an exquisite eye for color and composition. Many of Blackshear's works have been seen as blending Christian and African-American traditions. In addition, several of his paintings feature Indians with provocative symbolic language that brings attention to issues of prejudice and the natural process of life. Blackshear refers to his style as "Afro-Nouveau," He says that the themes of compassion, sensitivity, serenity, optimism and racial justice are all represented in his collections (Klann). His artwork conveys these feelings and beliefs. I find his "Afro-Nouveau" art style so unusual and refreshing.

It is true that the qualities that define a piece of art are subjective and change depending on who is looking at it, but there are only so many must haves. First, there is an aesthetic appeal; what an individual finds lovely may not strike another to be so; beauty is subjective. The widest potential audience can appreciate a great piece of art. This feature makes modernist artists' works so appealing to the eye. Art during this period is aesthetically pleasing because of modernist artists' innovative use of color.

Ability and mastery of one's medium are essential components of every piece of art. The expertise and technique employed in the creation of a piece of artwork can be inferred from a close examination of the work in question; for instance, modernist painters employed a wide range of approaches, from abstraction as well as cubism to the incorporation of elements from African sculptures, among others, in creating their various compositions. A distinguishable creative method is a feature of any piece of art. Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) is one such work (Murrell). Using abstraction and drawing influence from the African sculptures, he painted this image in a way that made both techniques obvious.

The artist's message and motivations are important aspects to consider while analyzing a piece of art. The goal of most creative pursuits is to transmit some idea, feeling, or message to the audience through the medium of the piece of artwork itself. Looking at modernist art, one can see that most artists of all time wanted to convey their innermost thoughts and feelings visually. Upon seeing a great piece of art, the audience will experience the same emotions as the creator: grief, happiness, or jealousy. Modernist paintings such as Picasso's The Old Guitarist express the message and intention of the artist by presenting a disadvantaged individual, eliciting the viewer's empathy and making the painting more than just a pretty image.

In conclusion, an artist's characterization of their work depends on the individual's aesthetic preferences. Due to the tremendous complexity that the area contains and represents, philosophers have traditionally struggled to define art broadly. However, in my opinion, art stimulates imaginative thought, expands one's horizons intellectually, conjures up concrete mental images, and reflects one's or another's culture, tradition, emotions, thoughts, religion, or ethnic background.
