Running an organization requires strategic management, particularly in the flow of information and goods. Green logistics is a supply chain management concept that promotes strategic business operations. For instance, it helps the firm integrate society and the economy, eliminating the culture of focusing on economic benefits alone. Specifically, with green logistics, organizations can operate without harming the environment by executing environmentally friendly practices, particularly in logistics and supply chain management. Green logistics are essential to running organizations because they reduce the carbon footprint, lower operational costs, promote sustainability, and increase global performance.

Green logistics positively impact organizational efficiency by reducing the carbon footprint and lowering operational costs. So, green logistics (GL) comprises policies and frameworks that reduce the environmental impact of a business. Therefore, by implementing environmentally conscious practices, GL helps lessen a business’s carbon footprint. Mohsin et al. note the benefits of green logistics, among them reducing environmental damage and operational costs (2). From that standpoint, organizations can reduce the environmental impacts of their logistic operations by using cleaner transportation modes, adopting energy-efficient technologies, and optimizing routes. Likewise, organizations can leverage green logistics to lower their operational costs. In this case, GL helps lower operational costs and promote sustainability by enforcing cost-effective alternatives to facilitate everyday business activity. For instance, a business may opt for renewable energy to run its operations, which is cheaper and more sustainable. Similarly, companies implementing more efficient transportation and distribution processes can reduce fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and other operational expenses. According to Bäckström, most organizations believe GL helps reduce operational costs because it is more efficient than traditional logistics procedures (8). Bäckström states that GL tries to achieve operational efficiency by reducing expenses by optimizing material usage and reusing components to build more efficient products (8). Therefore, a business reduces its overall operational costs and environmental impact by embracing green logistics.

Green logistics also promotes global performance and enhances sustainability. Traditionally, businesses emphasized cost control to remain competitive, but GL integrates society and the economy, enhancing global competition (Tan et al. 1). Today, green logistics helps improve the sustainability of logistics operations. Tan et al. assert that while in the past, businesses viewed sustainability as a cost to the logistics industry, nowadays, it has become a key driver of efficiency and profitability (2). GL generates profit without compromising environmental and business quality, a vital aspect of sustainability. Mohsin et al. mention that green logistics has increasingly become important for countries to improve their competitiveness (1). Specifically, improving logistics performance has enhanced the effective integration of countries and businesses into global value chains, helping maintain economic growth and facilitate national competitiveness. Furthermore, GL increases organizations’ market share, buyer faithfulness, and corporate financial growth (Mohsin et al. 2). These are determinants of global performance. Therefore, green logistics promotes sustainable performance and enhances a company’s global performance since everyday operations are more sustainable.

Undeniably, green logistics (GL) is essential for running organizations since it facilitates economic and environmental sustainability. For instance, GL’s policies reduce the business’s environmental impact. Besides, GL reduces operational costs by offering cheaper albeit environmentally-conscious alternatives to facilitate daily activities. These include renewable energy sources and environmentally conscious practices. Finally, GL facilitates global performance and promotes sustainability by integrating the economy and society rather than emphasizing cost control. Overall, green logistics balances business and society, allowing the firm to profit without negatively impacting the people, planet, and profits.
