The most troubling clinical experience that I encountered was the unanticipated and high nurse burnout. The level of nurse burnout was heightened by the high turnover rates alongside chronic absenteeism among nurse practitioners. Following the high turnover, the few nurses who remained experienced an increased level of stress. In addition, the work schedules were extremely tight, and job rotations within different departments were very high. The experience adversely affected me because I encountered emotional exhaustion as well as low personal accomplishment in the workplace. My level of performance decreased, which increased my stress levels.
The issue that bothered me regarding nurse burnout was that I could not control my stress level and became very irritable to my patients and colleagues. The problem adversely affected my relationship with colleagues and the quality of care to patients. Mudallal, Othman, and Al Hassan (2017) acclaim that nurse burnouts reduce performance levels and heightens a feeling of dissatisfaction. Even though the organization sought to offer extra pay to motivate nurses, burnout from work made them deem the workplace unconducive (Mudallal et al., 2017). I found myself dozing off during critical care procedures such as surgery. Also, I often forgot important information about my patient’s medical prescriptions, which adversely affected the quality of care. For instance, I committed a number of avoidable medical errors, which in turn diminished patient safety.

Write my essayI firmly believe there are a number of things I would have observed to mitigate the impacts of burnout. For instance, I would have been open to the importance of adjustment as well as adaptation in my career. As such, it would have better prepared me psychologically that burnout and high turnover rates in a healthcare organization are inevitable. Moreover, I would have relied on critical thinking to be mindful when dealing with colleagues and patients. That way, I would have avoided committing medical errors that adversely affected patient safety and, at the same time, improved my relationship with patients.
