Ethical Thinking and Professional Responsibility in Healthcare

In thinking like a healthcare professional, one has to take the position of a person who embodies a particular set of values and behaviors that align with the healthcare field's responsibilities and ethics. First of all, it is about logic, sympathy, and moral values that require a sense of ethical conduct. To think as a health care professional implies viewing a situation from that point of view and with the patient at the forefront of attaining good health in mind above all other matters (Haroun & Mitchell, 2021). One of the qualities of a professional in healthcare is the skill to analyze complicated medical cases and then make a sound decision relying on available evidence, even in stressful and limited times. We must contemplate all available therapeutic choices, place these against the pros and cons, and then emphasize patient well-being. Besides, it is also essential to have communication skills in communicating information to patients and collaborating with other team members in the healthcare team.

In addition, maintaining the confidentiality of medical information and data in healthcare professionalism necessitates respecting the patient's autonomy and dignity. With such high ethical standards, medical practitioners should abide by these codes of conduct by protecting patients' confidential information and getting their consent before performing any procedure (Haroun & Mitchell, 2021). Reflecting upon my experience, I felt hurt when I faced an attitude that damaged trust and caused disconnectedness in the healthcare setting. I saw that a particular healthcare provider was being mean to a patient by ignoring health concerns and not communicating well with the patient. In the process, providers' ethical responsibilities were at peril, and the quality of care was at risk.

Conclusion

In conclusion, being a healthcare professional means looking over the patient entirely, including thinking critically, having empathy, practicing ethically, being a good communicator, and making all decisions based on solid evidence. These ethical principles are fundamental to our ethical values. According to them, our healthcare system will be well-regulated and will be able to produce the best possible results for the patients.
