Since children in this age (pre-school aged) range are between 3-5 years old, some effective guiding techniques include reward-based on Positive behaviour (reinforcement), Redirection (channeling the focus), logical outcomes(consequences), and the problem-solving approach. Rewarding good behavior can be done by encouraging it to increase its frequency and praising it. Redirection refers to pulling a child's attention from an undesirable activity to a more worthwhile one (Miller,2016). Reasoning enables children to make decisions and understand the logical results to feel the legal effects without punishing them for mischievous actions. The conflict-solving process involves children's ability to solve disputes independently by defining the problems, analyzing the choices, and making decisions.

Reason for Each Technique

Positive reinforcement is adequate, given that early childhood years are formative. Children rely on the approval of the adults around them as they are motivated by favorable remarks, which enhances their self-worth (Northmead Childcare, 2024). Redirection works because young children have difficulty focusing for long periods, and redirecting them to participate in a new, positive activity helps control their horrible behavior. Logical consequences help promote responsibility mainly because they link the consequence directly to the specific action carried out by the child to make the reason easily understandable by the child. The problem-solving approach is highly effective and fosters essential communication skills, such as interpersonal and conflict management skills, used later in life.

Examples of Using Each Strategy

In the following section, various cases may warrant using these guidance techniques among caregivers of preschool-aged children. Positive reinforcement may be used when a child obeys during the cleaning up of artwork by saying something like, "Wow, you did such a great job putting all the materials away neatly. " The child may need Redirection if they start fighting over books by saying, "Look, who wants to help me water the plants? " If a child insists on throwing food on the floor despite being warned not to do it, logical consequences may be applied. One obvious cause is to have the child assist in cleaning up the mess. This method of conflict management allows kids to solve conflicts independently. For example, two children argue about who will go to the computer first when spending computer time in class (Waterford.org, 2020). The teacher can help them by saying, "What has happened?", "How can we fix this so that all parties can agree?" Teachers ask questions and let the children give ideas. Utilizing these varied guidance strategies allows caregivers to effectively address the diverse situations that arise when working with preschoolers.

Personal Reflection

It was equally beneficial for me to learn about these four types of guidance: positive reinforcement, redirection, natural and logical consequences, and problem-solving approach. It is essential to know that a teacher should be purposeful in being an educator who molds the whole child, including their academic, social, and emotional development. Thus, the goal of these techniques is to enhance self-esteem, foster emotional intelligence, promote personal accountability, and develop skills that lead to productive lives. It is easy to apply positive reinforcement because one fundamental strategy is to reward the appropriate behavior (Ackerman, 2019). Another practicable strategy was the redirection strategy, mainly targeting young children with short attention spans. However, articulating what matters and what fairly logical consequences could be misinterpreted, I may need some time to know what fits precisely to preschoolers (Andrade et al., n.d.). Among the course principles, the problem-solving approach is inspiring and empowering. However, it can be challenging if practiced without talent and the right kind of trainer, which I still need to do. If I were to practice and familiarize myself more with logical consequences and problem-solving, I would need more than the usual yearning followed by a formulaic approach. I need exposure to real-life examples of the matters and get instructor responses.

Other Relevant Thoughts

My research supported the idea that when teaching young children, insight is essential, and concrete and well-founded advice is necessary for young students. These strategies ensure politeness and maintain a child properly in a class that enhances learning. Although using them entails several challenges, the benefits achieved depend on achieving the desired societal cry of caring, responsible, and capable children. What stands out is how much this chart outlines disruptive/lousy conduct, simply children's unpolished way of expressing wants/needs, and undeveloped skills. These have to do with the constructive approach that points to the causes of such problems. As a teacher, I should build positive, warm relationships and avoid harmful practices such as spanking (Sophia, 2023). These strategies are well-suited for that purpose. In sequential steps, I want to build more specialized knowledge in using these positive guidance approaches professionally. I can handle these techniques with time and preparation, which must have practical application. The mentorship can continue so that I can continue to see how I can enhance my way of guiding others. Conclusively, positive guidance yields positive developmental outcomes for the children.
