In the modern world, children often seem to be engaged in video games, which are part of their lives. Despite the entertainment value and the fun that these games present, and their ability to present interactivity in challenging activities, some problems have been associated with them in kids and teenagers. However, video games may help to improve cognitive abilities, though their overuse negatively affects children’s physical condition and social interactions.

Ideally, excessive playing of video games threatens to result in children’s lack of activity, which is the primary trigger for obesity. Some negative consequences of children sitting and gaming for extended hours include failing to perform activities vital to developing the child’s body and other health. Chronic use of gaming tools such as pads can lead to the development of knuckle pads and pathologies in children (Kyriakou & Glentis, 2021). In addition, screens and a lack of time for rest can cause eyesight problems and sleeplessness, affecting their health. Thus, adequate use of video games can lead to unhealthy and inactive lifestyles for children.

Moreover, video games are aggressive or highly competitive, and they do influence the social lives of children. Gaming addiction has the negative effect of social isolation since children work on virtual relationships at the expense of actual ones (López-Fernández et al., 2021). Thus, all the activities that involve video gaming contribute to antisocial behavior. In addition, the violent content in the games prepares the child to act violently and see others from a violent perspective, especially in community interactions.

In conclusion, it can be seen that although video games have certain cognitive advantages and are fun to play, they have numerous negative effects on children’s physical well-being and social conduct. Parents and those who care for children should regulate their screen time and ensure that they balance and engage in other productive activities, such as exercising and playing with friends, rather than on screens. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid catering to the detrimental effects of video games on children and provide an outline of the positive changes that can be implemented to overcome this vice and enhance the good virtues of the children.
